About

Art All Night…

…is Engaging / …Happens / …is Everchanging!

Art All Night’s motto is “No Fee, No Jury, No Censorship.”

So, what does that motto mean? These are the values that have guided this show for more than 25 years.

Art All Night is a free (you read that right, FREE) grassroots, community art event put together by a group of dedicated volunteers every year, typically held during the last weekend in April in the Lawrenceville area of Pittsburgh.  Anyone can put one single piece of art in the show. Art All Night is a joyful celebration of both the arts and our community that grows in popularity each year, bringing thousands of people from all over the region into Lawrenceville for one unforgettable weekend.

Art All Night promotes artistic expression from all walks of life. The event particularly encourages everyone to become actively involved by contributing artwork and engaging in interactive projects. The show brings together seniors, novice artists, educators, students, seasoned professionals, and families of all ages.

Art All Night is a catalyst for community development, shining a spotlight on our unique neighborhood. Lawrenceville has long been a magnet for artisans, lovers of beautiful architecture, and those attracted to the unique aspects of urban living.

Art All Night has been around since 1998, the show must be doing something right!

* Art All Night is a family friendly, weapons free, community event. Public safety issues will be dealt with on a case by case basis by the security team with support from law enforcement.

No Fee

No fee means that it’s free to submit a piece of art, and it also means there is no fee to attend the show. The idea reverberates throughout the show: we rely on donations and volunteers for everything you see.

No Jury

There is no editing or curation of artwork. There are no judges for the artwork worthiness and no artists are shown preference. All are welcome, and all are worthy.

No Censorship

Because the show doesn’t answer to any sponsors, the show is censorship-free.
Art is in the eye of the beholder; come see what others see!

History of Art All Night

Art All Night began in Pittsburgh’s Lawrenceville neighborhood when a group of friends were sitting around one evening and decided to put on an art show – all night long to commemorate the 24 hour vibe of our steel town’s roots. It’s jury, fee, and commission free because, hey, they were artists!

Art All Night debuted in 1998 with 101 pieces of art and 200 all night art lovers. In 1999, submissions grew to more than 200 pieces and attendance to more than 1,100. Over the years, this family-friendly event has gained a cult-like following, growing and evolving to include a multitude of interactive creative experiences for all ages, multiple stages for a variety of different musical tastes, onsite art so that attendees can view the creative process, and a video lounge to showcase local cinematographers.

In 2005, 868 artists displayed their work and more than 7,000 guests attended. By 2007, 850 artists entered their work in the show which was seen by over 7,500 visitors. It has gained a fan base following over the years and has been growing in popularity nearly every year.
