What is Art All Night?
Art All Night is an uncensored, non-juried art show occurring on in the Lawrenceville neighborhood of Pittsburgh. It starts on Saturday afternoon and goes all night until Sunday afternoon.
When is it held?
The last full weekend of April.
Where is it held?
Somewhere in the Lawrenceville neighborhood of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. In an effort to showcase the diversity of Lawrenceville the location changes each year. As the event has grown we seek spaces of 20,000 sq. feet or more. In January the building committee identifies potential sites and works with the property owners to determine the actual location.
If you have a building and would be interested in hosting the show, please email info at artallnight.org
What does it cost?
Nothing. Not even a penny. Participation and attendance are both free. (FREE!)
How many pieces can I submit?
One and only one piece per artist.
I have something unusual…
Great! We love unusual. If it needs special handling or extra time to setup, please email info at artallnight.org before the event so we can be prepared to help you.
What happens before the event?
A group of dedicated volunteers start meeting weekly on Wednesdays in late January to plan the event. Then, once the location is identified, there are several weekend cleanup and preparation events in April.
If you are interested in an expanded volunteer role please email info at artallnight.org.
What happens the day of the event?
The Saturday of the event is most aptly described a “real rush.” Hundreds of volunteers assist hundreds of artists in checking in their artwork. Volunteer hangers curate the work, and art appreciators flood the warehouse from 4 pm on. There are also lots of arts and crafts activities for the kids from 4pm – 8pm, and lots of arts activities for the adults later that evening!
In less than 4 hours more than 1200 pieces of art are dropped-off and hung.
When the doors open…
The music begins, the children’s activities start, and the parking lots start to fill. In 2012 we had an estimated 15,000 people attend, most of whom visited on Saturday night.
When is the best time to go?
That depends on the atmosphere you are looking for. Saturday night has lots of children’s activities, bands, and the largest crowds. Sunday morning is very peaceful with much smaller crowds. The middle of the night has a whole other vibe to it.
What about children?
The show is open to everyone. We have children’s activities on Saturday night adjacent to a youth-friendly section of art. The rest of the show is uncensored.
How do I participate as an artist?
It’s easy. Check this website in April where you can register on-line. Then bring your artwork to the location on Saturday (the hours are posted on the website) with your registration form and a photo ID. On-site registration is available.
Be sure to take a picture of your artwork so you can participate after the show in Art All Night All Year.
If you have special needs just let us know before the event so we can plan for your piece.
How do I volunteer to help?
Visit the website in late March and follow the Volunteer link. There you will see the list of activities we need help with and you can sign up for a time slot. Then just check in with the Volunteer coordinator on site at the time you signed up for.
If you are interested in helping, we have meetings on Wednesdays before the event please email info at artallnight.org.
